Service to the Armed Forces

If you have an emergency or need help contacting your service member, call the American Red Cross at 877-272-7337.

We are linking our men and women in uniform to their loved ones here at home.

Today’s American Red Cross is keeping pace with the changing military. Using the latest in computer and telecommunications technology, the Red Cross sends communications on behalf of family members who are facing emergencies or other important events to members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving all over the world. These communications are delivered around-the-clock, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Emergency Communications Services

We can help military families with:

  • Staying in touch with loved ones.  Our Red Cross worldwide emergency communications network operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  We can help your family send emergency messages regarding the death or serious illness of a family member, the birth of a child, or other family emergencies.
  • Eligibility: Immediate family. Extraordinary circumstances for non-immediate family members.
  • Birth Messages:   *If the mother of the baby is in labor and it is a regular birth with no complications, then a message will be sent after the birth of the baby.  If there are complications, then the Red Cross will contact the doctor to get a medical statement and a message will be sent immediately.
  • Information to local veteran offices and contacts.
  • Minimal counseling to service members and their families.
  • Referrals to other agencies for specific services.
  • Access to emergency financial assistance.  The Red Cross collaborates with the Military Aid Societies in providing financial assistance for an urgent personal or family emergency. Eligibility: Service members and their dependents.
  • In order for us to better serve you in your time of need; we need some critical identifying information.  We will be able to speed up delivery of your message if we have the following:
    -Service member’s name
    -Social security number
    -Date of birth
-Military address (not the residence address) where the person is assigned.

Without this information, it may be necessary for us to process your request through the military locator service. We suggest you obtain this information and keep it with you at all times.  We also suggest that you give this contact information to other members of your immediate family in the event an emergency should occur and you are not readily available to provide the contact information. The ability to quickly locate the service man or woman is critical in emergency situations.

If you need to send an emergency message to a member of the Armed Forces, please call 877-272-7337.
